I'm starting to think about a set of tires and wheels for my project F-100. Do any of you that have been building hot rods for years or perhaps who live close to the boarder have a defiant idea if we are allowed to bring tires across the boarder under the rules $800 after 48hrs?
I was once told that you are never allowed to do this without paying the duty or taxes?
I have brought a lot of motorcycle parts as well as car part without incident, but I was hoping to here from some of you that may know for sure. It would be nice to seeing's the tire prices in the US. seem so more reasonable than here.
Gee I have never heard that you couldn't bring tires or wheels I think people do it every day on e-bay..I bought some from Diamondback tires in South Carolina and never had to pay any tax or charges at the border..We were over for two weeks in Myrtle Beach and they are in Conway just out of Myrtle Beach They make the wide white walls..All I can say is that's my experience. Might be a good idea to call customs and ask them ..Should be easy to google a phone number Canada customs..and importing goods.

I have always bought my tires at Discount tire they are helpful and will order the tires in with no deposit. They have never charged me shipping. I usually do a one day trip when I pick them up so I just pay the Ontario taxes (HST) on them at the border . I just picked some up about a month ago and have to order four more next week.
I posted a tire size chart on here that might help in sizing. This is how I do it..
Ya I have diamond back 3 which are BFG TA's. I'll post a pic of the catalog. I hear a lot of negative feedback about Coker, and lots of positive feedback about diamond back.
If you go see them maybe ask about a group buy? I have a friend looking for a set right now and just called them for a price. Prob save a few bucks if you guys all order same time, I woulda imagine that helps with their shipping.
Coker Tires are crap.. & they won't stand behind them they just keep jerking you around till you give up.. I have a pair of coker wide whites with about 12,00 miles on them and they have belts gone in them.. You will not find better people to deal with than Diamondback..here is a link to their website. https://www.dbtires.com/ they have a I-800 number on their web page you can call and talk to them direct.. at least to get all your information direct and then order from the Bracebridge dealer.. If you call ask for Cooper chapman-ball She is great to ask all your questions and just a really good person Her family owns the business.. The sure looked after me when I had a little tiny problem.. They shipped a new tire, paid all the shipping and told me to keep the tire for a spare..I had a little tiny bubble in a white wall.. That was three years ago and I still have not installed that tire because the bubble has never changed ..I highly recommend Diamondbacks and they will make white walls for any tire brand you want...

Great feedback guys thank you, Beans I will defiantly ask about a group buy I called them today but the guy that knows about the vintage line is off for a couple of days, I will call direct tomorrow thank you for the back door name & #
Just for a little info on a possible alternative : Last year , I wanted whitewalls , on short notice -- Shopped around , exchange rate was a killer . Found old fashioned " PORT-A-WALLS " on E Bay . Believe it or not , they came from Turkey -- Slapped them on a set of new radials and off I went -- They are not perfect , but for a hundred dollars , I'm pleased and no body has ever noticed that they aren't " Real " whitewalls . They are on the car in my avatar -- Hope this helps -- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51

Just E-Mailed them Beans, also asked them about a group buy, I will report any feedback.
Coker tires are manufactured in China, Coker bought the old north American molds and sent them to China for manufacturing, problem is no quality control on the old molds and producing crap tires. I have been bitten twice by Coker never again. I have been rolling with Diamond Back now for over 10 years and I have never had a problem
The last ones I bought are actually Michelin and were purchased through Rocky Island great guys to deal with and fair pricing. Most tire shops buy from them too and charge there large mark up.

Hi Andy, no more bikes, I have given my try to the pick up in the avatar, I have been at it 3-1/2 years now, still have one of my customs which is the reason I wanted to build a hot rod of any type.
Thanks for the kind words, it should be on the road next spring in hopes to be ready for my daughters wedding photos in June 2017.
I will come see you at one of the cruise nights locally and of course if you like come by the house this summer.

Well I managed to get 4 BFG's from a friend of mine, he has a small Auto shop, this was the suggestion I received from Diamond Back, I actually sent 2 separate e-mails to Rocky Mountain Tire but received no return, I think they must have been real busy, in the end my friends shop is on the way to work in the city so due to my incredibly heavy work load its best I deal there.
Thanks for all the input guys, I will get pictures up once I have the wheels and get them painted.
I want steel wheels myself but I have wheels that work so it's low on my priority list. But I want steelies cause then I can change up my look from time to time. Different style caps I'd love to try out.

My thoughts exactly, I was going to go with 18/20" staggered modern mags but this project and my OCD are both going to make me bankrupt I will save that look for later if at all, I also found over 3-1/2 years to get this far my tastes have changed, and I'm digging the more traditional now, I want it to have that heavy look that the 15" tire/wheel combo gives it.
Hope to have them all sorted out and ordered next week.
