Checking tach connection on G M HEI

              HI GUYS : I'm running a G.M. HEI in my 250 INLINE but my tach doesn't work -- I don't know anything about that stuff and would appreciate any tips on how to check it out -- Thanks in Advance -- LATER --  DON / FLEET 51

the tach signal is fired off the coil negative on the HEI . No idea on what tach you are using but it would have to be compatible to HEI coil

Tach wire should plug in right beside the ignition feed wire on the cap.

If the car runs and the wire is good its sending a signal . If you lost the negative  the coil would saturate and stop firing . What tach are you trying to use ?

Hi SLIM & HENRY : Thanks for the tips -- The car does run and the wire marked " Tach " is properly connected to the Tach lug on the HEI cap . " Old Koot " tudoured me yesterday on how to test for output at the cap -- I will start there . Henry : At this time the tach is installed in the dash , so testing it from another scource would be difficult -- Again , THANKS to all for your input -- LATER -- DON / FLEET 51

You can try and check the other connectors on the tach. IF its aftermarket, there should be a power and a ground to check. I had that trouble the first time I tried to use mine.
