It's starting folks. A month ago I was pulled into the Bowmanville scale for a routine inspection. Nothing new, but noticed they had a jack up 4x4 also getting checked out. Enforcement officers with creepers and measuring tapes working hard. I asked what was going on and was told all modified vehicles are now going to be inspected. The truck being inspected was a good looking Ford truck, but had the big boots and lift kit and all the tricked out stuff you see on these things. After my inspection I was on my way. Later that day on my way back through Bowmanville, I noticed that truck was still there sitting off to the side. My best guess is, it did not pass the inspection and was waiting on a tow or rollback.
Last week I was in getting some new tires mounted for the wife's s-10 and overheard (Yes I was eavesdropping) two young customers talking about how the MTO and police are going after 4x4's and street rods starting this spring.
Those Jacked trucks I can see them pulling and checking them..The most trouble I have with them is the lights with the HD lighting and jacking them up they never aim those damn lights and they are just blinding on these county roads..and there a couple guys on the road I am on and they are idiots..they are about 18 to 20 years old .. I do remember what an Idiot I was at that age..but we never had anything to much to be an idiot with..except tipping outhouses on Halloween link is clickable and signed..

I also see some (not all) young tuner cars trying to fit the wrong tires over wide rims and even going as far as changing the rear negative camber to get the tire under the fender well leaving little tire contact to the road. But these sort of things are making it bad for everyone no matter what class of car you have modded.
This appears to be an annual event east of Oshawa every year starting in the Spring, MOE stopping cars for missing emission equipment, DOT running safety checks. Like Chuck said lifted trucks, I'll add running huge tires/rims with no thought of upgrading the brakes, rather just run over the car ahead if they need to stop fast, diesels "rolling coal" when they get on it, ricers with no emission equipment so they register the car using a relatives address in North Bay so they don't need an e-test, Harley's with no mufflers so you can hear them a mile away. I don't know anyone with a hot rod,not a rat rod, that has been pulled over and fined for any safety/emission violation, lots of "a friend of a friend got stopped" but never first hand experience. Some of the crap we all see at the shows shouldn't be on the road.
I think most of us old fuddy farts will be ok..I think they are out to get the ones that are looking to get pulled over.. Us guys are too nice to get pulled over ..If you are driving a manure spreader with lawn chairs and bungy cords for seat belts and flash -lights duck taped to your backing plates and tractor tires you are looking to make a huge donation to Mcwynne the Orville Redenbacher twin sister .. I do think those that are not safe are better off the road.. Creativity is cool..But Safety is cooler and my main interest when I am coming down the road ...

When I had my tires installed on my Acura MDX by a reputable shop. I got the talking with one of the owners and he said those tires would not get installed like that buy most shops. Kids today are stretching them on themselves.
The idea behind the negative camber is so when they race, the wheels almost straighten out at top speed.
If they get into an accident with those tires on, most insurance co's. will walk away from them.
I have been around racing my hole life. My father built Brighton speedway and I grew up racing and even raced myself for a few years before moving on to a bigger team as pit crew. I might have missed a few things, but seeing that much negative camber aint helping. I sure wouldn't want to even try a curved on ramp with a touch of rain with that little bit of tire contact. Just looking at one makes me feel like spinning out. lol.
That's why its so important to share our knowledge with the newbie/up and coming to this hobby. Creativity is great yes, but has to be safe!!
Not sure if anyone here has lifted a truck lately or added larger rims/tires ect. Nothing cheap doing any of that. Paying big dollars so like most that put that kinda money out to customise anything, they have pride in their ride and at least have 1/2 a brain to know to do it safely.
Once again it is the few wrecking it for the masses.
