How strong did you mix it? Do you have to keep it covered? How many times or shelf life is it good for? I just bought a small baking bottle size and put it in a small plastic container and mixed it about 5 to 1 to try some misc nuts bolt and small brackets. Leave it a day or two to see how they turn out?
Non toxic, non corrosive, not harmful to the environment, does not warp panels, and pretty cheap I think somebody told me he bought like about 10 jugs for less than 100 bucks..

Ya, I get my molasses at the feed store, and mix it 9 or 10:1
Another thing that works quicker is using water, and borax, and putting an electric charge through it. Look it up on line (u tube). It's a little more involved, but quicker.

Sorry but water and an electric charge and me will not end up very well....... I am trying the molasses now and will let it sit another day or two and see how it makes out. Thanks for the lead on the feed store, could get very expensive at the grocery store.
I feel the same about water and electricity somehow or other those two things don't belong in the same sentence..Let us know how your molasses project works out..

as parklane suggested look up electrolysis.there is a ton of info and it works I have used it for years.make a note of what to use as anode it can be pored on grass when used up.it does not work any faster with a bigger charger.it has limits but is safe to use.this coming from a cave man.[read as wire brush and lots of dust and spit]

John,
I always thought it works better with Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda? I have not heard of Borax bring used?
Frank, you probably aren't old enough to remember, but waayyyy back when, there was a product called 20 Mule Team Borax. This is the same stuff as washing soda. I read one article years ago, where a real big vat was made out of lumber, and heavy plastic. It was big enough to immerse (nice big word eh) his frame. Anyway, he used a welder for the power source, and apparently worked very well.

John,
Come on now, I'm not wet behind the ears either.
I do know about 20 Mule as It is the best weed killer out there. Especially in areas where you have no grass because it will kill the grass too. PS: I'm not responsible if someone tries this at home. Apparently nothing will grow in the area for 5 to 7 years.
never mind the rust now i know what i can use to kill that dam grass for a long time getting tired of cutting and weed killer is just not long enough BUT seriously this sounds like a good deal for cleaning up rusted parts
thanks bob
Ran into an old timer in New Mexico a few weeks ago, he had a 45 gallon drum and said he mixed the feed 1 pound to 1 gallon of water. The key to this method is to have patience, he had a 34 Studebaker jack that had been soaking for two weeks............it looked like new
Has anyone now done this recently?,,,,,,,,I have a gas tank that I would love to try this on.....just fill it up and let it sit for couple weeks?
sounds too easy lol
When I was building my 29 I built a tank out of a few shipping pallets. I only needed it about 10 inches deep cuz everything was flat…doors, quarters, trunk lid etc.. Worked out just great.
I don't see why it wouldn't work INSIDE a gas tank. Just make sure you've got a vent of some sort
I bought a 5 gal can of Molasses from our local farm supply and mixed it 8 parts water to 1 part molasses. Did a great job and then poured it in the bush as it is non toxic.
