Bug is running from Mitchell to London daily for College.

His car is being goofy. Fan running overdrive from even stone cold start, heat gauge not even close etc.

No codes showing and no lights on the dash.

I suspected the thermostat, but get this, it's an 'assembly'  Yep, housing and all, very expensive.

Already had some sensors replaced, and the therm unit (not by me, I'm just dealing with the aftermath), 3 months ago.

I'm a tad confused why I can't just switch out the T-stat ?

Anybody ?

what engine.. Is coolant low, does it overheat. does it make good heat from the heater when idling,

Fan running on high, I am guessing you are talking the rad cooling fans not the interior blower motor.

It is possible he has it in the defrost in mode on all the time.. defrost mode could call for the A/C compressor to engage turning on the fans.. check all fuses..

Also coolant temp sensor could be sensing high temp, calling for more fan if low on coolant, sensor could get incorrect reading if not submerged in liquid.sensors must be submerged to function correctly

and a couple things to check for from a recall..

Seems like there many issues with a coolant leak being problematic

 https://www.carcomplaints.com/Chevrolet/Cruze/2012/cooling_system/coolant_leak.shtml

Seems a little online searching brought up a lot of problems with coolant leak/loss issues on the cruze in this vintage   I am leaning on low coolant and a small leak.. as it's been three months you say since he had a stat.. All stats now are designed to fail in an open position to prevent overheating .. Erratic heat Guage, and cooling fans running are pointing me to low coolant..Hard to do a home diagnose..

Hope that helps a bit

Thanks Chuk, some good info to look into.

It is a 1.4 and heater is working fine. I didn't know about a recall and we've never received a notice. I'll have a look at the pump for leaks and go from there.

Bug doesn't live here. so I highly doubt he'd notice anti-freeze in the snow or even a puddle for that matter.

I've bled the rad twice, once before a new sensor and after. Made no difference. Fuses all good, and I switched the fan relays.

I'll look into more stuff. Thanks for the help.
