Aluminum Polish

So what's everyone using to make that aluminum shine ? My old coupe has chrome wheels, but my two pickup trucks have aluminum (Eagle Alloy) and the company I drive for, bought me a new HX dump truck loaded with polished aluminum.  Whats working best for you ?

i find using "california chrome" down beside the 10ac truck stop to be the best way to do it. he specializes in aluminum wheels and all the other parts on tractor trailers. lol-i had to. but, if it is a pc that hasn't been done for a long time, if ever, i take it or the truck to him for the 1st go at it then it is a matter of maintenance and i still use a product called "never dull" for the maintenance. there are probably lots of newer products and less labor extensive ways of doing it but i have been using it for over 40yrs back to the days i was truck driving and it works for what i want. it's the first time done if they didn't come with a polished finish that is the hardest even on new or fairly newer trucks.  i use it and him on my delivery trucks and they are on aluminum bud's and other pc's. i take smaller stuff car stuff in and his cash price is quite reasonable for the quality.

Autosol polish works for me. Truckers like the stuff too.

I agree with both Rick and Junior. I've used both products many of times. When working on old rims that are not coated is after I polish them, is to sprinkle flour onto the aluminum, then rub it out with a clean white polishing rag. Always remember to go with the grain. By going with the grain, you will pull out the polish and that will give you a brighter shine. Brighter because the polish (the black crud) has been pulled out of the aluminum. Gives you a deeper shine and does not leave them looking grey.

Now as for that new truck, wash with dish soap and then use Windex. The rims will already have a clear coating on them and polish will be a waste of time and just do damage to the coating.

Like Rick said, for a rim that has not been polished in a long time, He gets them to cut the rim by using a buffer and jewelers rouge. Trying to do it by hand is a real PITA. Also a very very dirty job!!

If you do use nevrdull, pull out what you need and keep the lid on the can. Once it goes dry, it is pretty well used up.

I've use the California chrome and it does work well. Funny how I even bought it from the place next to the 10 acre truck stop (Never enough chrome) shag was talking about. Great stuff. I have even used nevrdull and Autosol on my s10 wheels, but I don't think it's enough for my big truck. Thanks for the info though. I guess we are using the same. I have jewelers rouge and buffing wheels. I only break them out when I buy rims that need a good deep polish.

You can get Flitz at Canadian Tire. Comes in a silver tube. (looks like a big tube of toothpaste).

Just remember that all your wheels have a clear coating on them from Alcoa. You start to put a polish on them and that may void the warranty on them. Just use a good soap and water on them for now. I use Dawn and hot water with a sheepskin style wash mitt.

Sorry Ziggy. These Alcoa wheels are not clear coated. In fact, in more than 35 year I've owned and driven truck, I have yet to own class 8 wheels that had clear. I have seen it on smaller dually wheels though. I ended up using the good old California chrome. I was just wondering if anyone had even better products. I friend told me about Devils brew, and from what I saw on Youtube it's great stuff. My problem is.. $33.00 U.S is the killer. www.sinistershineshop.com/products

Hey Larry. Have you tried calling Sinister shine. They are based out of Cambridge Ont. Can imagine that they have a vendor local to us.

As for California Chrome, do you mean California Custom?? If so, they do have some great stuff. Talked to a couple of their reps back in '97 when I had a truck 'n trailer in the Truckers For Wildlife national truck show in Reno Nevada. I was using their wax for both the truck and the trailer. (Just think.... a black '97 W-900 with a black 53' Stoughton trailer that had hand painted murals on both sides. And yes, I did wax and polish the entire truck and trailer by hand.) Managed to get some freebies from them as long as I put 2 of their decals on the truck. Did use their polish as well on all the aluminum and stainless steel. Do like their stuff. Lots of elbow work involved, but the thumbs up and the comments on the CB made my day and made it worth my while!

Sorry. My bad. Yes it's California Custom Purple Metal Polish. Great stuff. Any idea as to whats in this stuff ? The prices are crazy. Maybe I could make my own or blow the shop up trying.. lol. A friend of mine uses Sinister products. He's very lazy and seems to keep his truck looking good, so this polish from Sinister must be good stuff and easy to use. Funny. I had a new 99 black Stoughton for a few years. I know what your saying. Loved that wagon.
