A couple of weeks ago I get a call from my buddy who is partnering with me on the Bantam. He is installing a F1 axle in a 38 Ford panel that he is building but his axle has no hubs or backing plates which he used previously and now can’t find any. He asked me to check around out here so I posted on the local sites. Several leads were given and either it involved buying way too much or the pieces we needed were missing. I got a PM from Shag telling me to call Tim who is pretty knowledgeable on this stuff. Tim told me to check Roblin’s first before he did too much digging around. Now, I live in Prince Edward County, home of Meinekers, once the greatest source of hotrod parts anywhere and Roblin’s, probably running a close second to this day. Yes, Roblin’s is still in business despite rumours to the contrary 20 years ago in Old Autos. Why I didn’t think of dropping in to see Lawrence myself is beyond me. Well, on Monday I went over to Roblin’s and actually disturbed Lawrence at lunch time which you never do, but he was gracious about it. I told him what I needed and said I’d check back in few days. That night he called me to say he found hubs and backing plates and I told him I would be by Tuesday. When I got there, he had done some further digging and came up with a better set of backing plates and a set of hubs with virtually new bearings, mounting bolts and oil catchers. He stuck by his original and very low price. I can’t say enough about this man so I am putting the word out there that if you don’t know him or don’t use his services, check him out. He has barns full of parts and he pretty well knows everything he’s got.
