I always thought service parts were 10 years. I guess I missed the politician getting payed off and changing the law.

Welcome to the throw away world. They don't want anything to last too long. Remember when fridges and stoves and furnaces used to last 15-20 years. Auto industry and everything else would collapse if things lasted like they did years ago.

We're remodelling our kitchen right now. Our old dishwasher was 28 years old, and the fridge and stove were 25 years old, everything was tired but still working, but our 5 year old microwave just quit with a switch problem! We’re getting all new “high-tech” appliances with lots of electronics and energy ratings (the "honey-do" list, you know what that is, right?). We’re not likely to be here in 25 years but I’d be surprised if the new stuff lasted anywhere near as long as the old ones. Same with cars. Our daily driver mini-van is 17 years old with over 300km. It has its faults but I can’t see buying a new one with all the new “features” that will do the driving for me. I’ve always said that the biggest problem with North American drivers is that they don’t want to drive their vehicle, they want to drive their living room, and today’s vehicles are just that, with TV’s everywhere, self parking and braking and steering, etc. I still want to do my own maintenance and repairs but even that is getting stupid. Maybe an old Russian Lada isn’t such a bad idea after all!

that's a little harsh, there all the same. what ford did was let it get that far, or piss poor management for another term. i think this would of went up a chain of command starting at the dealer, ser rep, ser mgr, maybe the owner but probably not till the sh!t pile got deeper. then corporate, district mgr, regional mgr, then who knows where. probably some sort of a micky mouse v.p. level before they called the manufacturer of the system and told them to make a 100 or so of them, yesterday. someone really dropped the ball on this letting it get as far as it did.

i am not sticking up for ford, i have something of each, but over the years i have been basically bought off for a legit beef a couple of times and ford was one of them who bought me. after the 3rd tire blew on a new 2000 dually truck and they were putting the same crap tire back on it i flipped out. some mgr from the tire manufacturer called me and told me to go to ???? tire shop and put whatever brand tire i wanted on the truck, n/c. i was bought when i put the michilins on it. the last time was with peterbilt about 3yrs ago over new truck warranty or lack of. they resolved the issue and put some more new chrome bling on the truck. it should never of got as far as it did before some jerk off mgr fixed it somehow when they seen it wasn't going away. it could be any of them next. ford didn't get to be the #1 truck maker for eon's and gm didn't get to # 1 auto maker for longer eon's making crap. mopar didn't get to be # 3 auto maker for an eon making crap either, somebody had to be # 3 at one time. there all the same and crap happens. its how you handle your crap i would think.

they are all the same 58, i think. sorry, not trying to jump your thread but i thought of it at another angle i guess. there would be a reason not to own any of them today, they are all making them 1/2 assed disposable and making it too easy to own one.
