Roll bars/ cages not allowed by insurance

Here is a reply from my insurance about my inquiry for insurance on a car with a roll bar,

Insurance companies will no longer insure cars with roll bars/ cages.

Hello Henry,

I just heard back from Western Assurance and due to the vehicle being modified with the roll bar they will not insure this vehicle. I also just got off the phone with Hagerty’s and they also will not insure the vehicle due to the roll bar.

This means the only insurance company that would insure this type of vehicle is facilty which is technically considered a high risk market which means the premium will be very expensive. It will more than the Western quote I gave you earlier, at least twice as much if not more.

Sandra

One would think a roll bar would make the vehicle safer for the front seat driver & passenger..They are slowly just a little step at a time trying to squeeze us out.. I think the liberal government is in bed with them..My wife has a PT-cruzer convertible and it has a roll bar from the factory .. I wonder how they can insure it..confuse

so let me understand this, we make our vehicles safer - and they want more. I know what the roll bar might imply, but the Insurance Co is simply making an assumption. I wish one of our Prime Ministers was a Hot Rodder, mebbe some of this chit would stop.

This is not just in Ontario, it is Canada wide and being spread across the US. My buddy bought a Camaro last year and called all around including Hagarty US and was told the same, take out the roll bars if you want insurance, so we cut it all out. It seems that many head injuries have occurred in crashes. When racing you have a helmet on which cushions the blow.

And when you're racing, your insurance is no good.

I lost a good friend back in June 1963, through a roll over in a 1930 Model a 2 door Coach hot rod,..roll bar installed, because the car still had the soft top,..( no seat belts back in the day ),..car went sideways on the highway because of a steering malfunction,..rolled 2 1/2 times down a 8 / 10 foot ditch,..came to rest on it's top,..with the roll bar resting across the back of Erwin's neck,..breaking his neck. The one and only safety feature built into the car to perhaps save a life,..actually ended Erwin's life on the spot.
